Marshals, Federalies Arrest Francisco Barbosa in Mexico

A 35-year-old construction worker who fled Monroe County approximately 22 months ago following the brutal rape and beating of a 92-year-old Tellico Plains woman has been apprehended in Mexico.

Tellico Plains Police Chief Bill Isbell made the announcement during a scheduled press conference at the town’s community center on Wednesday.

“Francisco Barbosa, or Francisco Barbosa- Sanchez, a Mexican male, was captured by U.S. marshals and the federalies in the interior of Mexico on Tuesday,” Isbell said. “He will be detained in Mexico City until the extradition process returns him to Monroe County which is expected to take as long as six months”.

Isbell called his department’s investigation of the rape and beating “lengthy,” and said it had been “very methodical” from its beginning. Read More...
